Snapdragon apples were created by Cornell University’s apple breeding program and official made public in 2013. According to the university these apples took 10 years to create! 

The snapdragon was designed to have a perfect crunch or snap, hence the name. This apple was marketed to consumes starting in 2018, and are exclusively grown in New York. Which is why the official name for the apple is New York Snapdragon.  

This apple is cross between a Honeycrisp and RubyFrost. The result is that the snapdragon has a fantastic crisp, and slightly honey flavor. Think of the after taste from a Honeycrisp but not as strong. Snapdragon gets it color and size from the RubyFrost apple.

Snapdragon apples are currently my favorite apple because of the unbelievable crunch when you first bite into the apple. Next, the flavor profile is perfect! Think Honeycrisp flavor with Gala level tartness, the result is the prefect apple flavor. 

The snapdragon has high crisp, medium tart, medium high sweetness, and medium/low juiciness. The combination of these levels makes the snapdragon absolutely amazing apple eating experience. 

In my personal opinion, the snapdragon is the ultimate apple eating experience and is the paramount apple. The complete and perfect essence of an apple eating experience can be described though enjoying a snapdragon apple.
